Virtual Tours & events

Over the past few years, the use and creation of virtual tours have become increasingly popular, especially within the events industry. Similar to CAD (Computer Aided Design), the use of virtual tour applications like Google Tour allow users to showcase a venue or area to spectators anywhere in the world. With the use of this technology, both event managers and the public are able to visit venues virtually, at their convenience. From an event managers perspective, this is very beneficial as not only are they able to view potential hosting venues but also showcase their event venues; increasing audience engagement prior to and after the event.

AR & VR TECHNOLOGY WITHIN THE EVENTS INDUSTRY

In recent years, the use of augmented and virtual reality within events has surged massively. As the events industry is expanding and the use of technology is being incorporated much more frequently, event managers are eager to showcase the use of advanced technology within their events as an attempt to enhance the attendee's experience.

Augmented reality & events

Commonly explored through the use of mobile phone technology and social media applications, the use of augmented reality (AR) allows users to customise their reality by emerging digital creations into their environment, virtually. In recent years, many businesses have incorporated the use of AR within their operations, many large companies like IKEA, Rolex and Pokemon have also created their own AR-based apps to enhance the customer's experience, whether it be a try-on app or an AR based game - its uses are endless.

There are multiple ways in which the use of AR can be used within an event, one example being the use of AR booths, as demonstrated in the video above.

Similar to the use of AR, virtual reality (VR) is also used to alter one's perception of reality by emerging digital creations into one's vision of the real world. However, unlike AR, the use of VR is much more intense as it allows users to fully change their environment, usually through the use of a VR headset. This means that users can experience the effervescence of having visited anywhere in the world, real or fictional, without having to leave their home. Event managers can use this within their events to give attendees an out-of-this-world experience without the operational complications. Especially with the current climate of the coronavirus pandemic, its prevalent that the use of VR may become increasingly more popular within the events industry in attempt to recreate the same effervescence of what an event might be like prior to social distancing restrictions.

Listed on the right is an example of how VR can be used within an event to enhance the attendee's experience.
